We provide Boulder patients with a fully virtual, multidisciplinary care team—including medical providers, behavioral health clinicians, and peer recovery specialists—who deliver personalized treatment, including medication-assisted treatment (MAT) and ongoing support. About this role
As Boulder Care’s Head of People, you’ll shape the future of our team and culture at one of the most mission-driven healthcare startups in the country. We’re building a workplace that reflects the same care, dignity, and equity we offer our patients. Reporting to Boulder’s founder and CEO, you’ll partner closely with the senior leadership team to design and scale people programs that enable performance, growth, and belonging. This is a high-impact, hands-on role for a strategic builder who shares our values, thrives in startup environments, and brings the skills to turn vision into systems that support and empower our people.
Success in this role
Strategy & Leadership - 40%
- Serve as a strategic partner to the CEO and SLT, integrating People priorities with broader business goals
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with leaders at all levels of the organization
- Lead, mentor, and develop the five-person People team
- Continually evaluate and build core programs that support growth and improve the employee experience
Organizational Development - 30%
- Demonstrate deep understanding of Boulder’s culture to codify and scale what makes us uniquely excellent
- Drive and sustain high levels of employee engagement through a feedback-driven culture, as well as recognition and reward systems
- Own Boulder’s performance management programs and practices, ensuring talent recognition is fair, actionable, and tied to growth and compensation
- Build and deliver resources, coaching, and learning opportunities to develop people managers and employees
- Lead thoughtful change management during periods of growth and evolution
Recruiting & Workforce Planning - 20%
- Lead organizational design, forecast planning, and workforce strategy in partnership with Finance and team leaders
- Oversee talent acquisition to ensure efficient and effective hiring practices across a diverse set of roles
- Deliver a remote employee onboarding experience that accelerates productivity, enhances employee engagement, and fosters belonging
Total Rewards - 10%
- Create and maintain compensation frameworks that reflect market rates, internal equity, and growth paths
- Deliver a compelling benefits package specific to the needs and desires of our workforce
- Drive equity education and transparency, helping employees understand what they have and why it matters
Requirements for the role
- 10+ years of experience in People Operations, Talent Acquisition, and HR leadership
- Experience leading People/HR strategy in a growth stage startup (series B, C, or D)
- Experience leading People/HR functions in a hybrid or remote employee environment
- Proficient in workforce planning; analyzing, forecasting, and strategizing for supply and demand changes
- Proven success designing performance review, compensation, and equity systems
- Strong command of employment law, compliance, and employee relations
- Clear and pragmatic thinker
- Ability to build trust across all levels of the organization
- Comfortable balancing strategic planning with hands-on execution
- Passion for developing people managers and enabling others to lead effectively
- Fluency in HR tools and systems; our tech stack includes Lattice, Rippling, Greenhouse, Easy Llama, Google Suite, and Adobe Sign
Work environment
- This is a fully remote role but we are currently only hiring candidates located in the following states: AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, ID, IL, KY, MA, NC, NJ, NY, OH, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, WA, and WV
- Office Requirements: Boulder teammates working with sensitive information must have a dedicated, private workspace with a lockable door and high-speed internet to maintain a secure, distraction-free environment, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and confidentiality standards
- Boulder Care employees are free to use our river-front HQ located in Portland, OR whenever they would like
Expected hours of work
This is a full-time remote position expected to work 40 hours between Monday-Friday during standard business hours.

Compensation
Boulder takes a number of factors into account when determining individual starting pay, including job and level they are hired into, location/metropolitan area, and skillsets. The starting salary range for this position is $225,000 - $275,000. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including equity grants in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave).
