Overview
Maintenance Mechanic II is an experienced mechanic responsible for independently performing preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance on production equipment, utilities, and facilities. This role focuses on advanced troubleshooting, minimizing downtime, and supporting reliability efforts.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on assigned equipment within established timeframes.
- Perform lubrication tasks in accordance with manufacturer and preventive maintenance (PM) specifications.
- Conduct utility rounds and accurately document readings and identified issues.
- Safely perform lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures in accordance with company policy.
- Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), safety, and sanitation policies.
- Utilize maintenance software to complete work orders, document repairs, and submit work requests.
- Communicate and escalate equipment issues to Leads or Management as appropriate.
- Support planned downtime and shutdown maintenance activities.
- Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including Quality Assurance, Operations, and Warehouse.
- Establish and maintain professional working relationships with employees and management.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of designated maintenance areas, including tools, toolboxes, maintenance shop, and parts storage areas.
- Respond to emergency equipment breakdowns, radio calls for support, and other maintenance-related requests during the shift.
- Attend and actively participate in weekly maintenance KPI meetings.
- Assist with assigned special projects as needed, including capital projects, process improvements, automation, and upgrades.
- Participate in and complete all required training assignments.
- Complete required safety observations in accordance with company standards.
- Utilize Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) manuals to identify spare parts, components, and troubleshooting resources.
- Utilize a multimeter to test electrical systems and components, including amperage, resistance, continuity, and voltage.
- Troubleshoot complex mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical issues.
- Participate in root cause analysis activities and associated improvement workshops.
- Rebuild mechanical and machine components, including valves.
- Use precision measuring tools to diagnose equipment issues.
- Identify dimensional, structural, and wear-related changes in machines and machine components.
- Communicate repair status, findings, and potential solutions with production and leadership using Microsoft Teams or other approved communication tools.
- Support, mentor, and assist with training and development of Maintenance Mechanic I employees.
- Perform assigned work independently on a variety of equipment across the Lerdo facility.
- Read and interpret P&ID drawings.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Industrial Maintenance Certificate or equivalent combination of education and 3–5 years of industrial or manufacturing maintenance experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical systems, including pumps, pneumatics, hydraulics, and gears/transmissions.
- Advanced electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to safely operate hand and power tools.
- Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals and technical drawings.
- Ability to perform essential job functions in an industrial manufacturing environment, with or without reasonable accommodation, including the ability to lift up to 50 pounds as required.
- Knowledge of condition-based monitoring and precision measurement tools preferred.
- Electrical and/or automation certifications or certificates preferred.
- Experience with UHT systems, pasteurizers, homogenizers, and related process equipment preferred.
This position is classified as Non-Exempt (eligible for overtime) and salary range for this position is $37.00 – $40.00/hour.
