About Etched
Etched is building the world’s first AI inference system purpose-built for transformers - delivering over 10x higher performance and dramatically lower cost and latency than a B200. With Etched ASICs, you can build products that would be impossible with GPUs, like real-time video generation models and extremely deep & parallel chain-of-thought reasoning agents. Backed by hundreds of millions from top-tier investors and staffed by leading engineers, Etched is redefining the infrastructure layer for the fastest growing industry in history.
Job Summary
The facilities electrical engineer will own the design, planning, delivery and operations of technical infrastructure for Etched facilities. This position will be responsible for bridging the gap from internal stakeholder teams developing products to facilitate high performance operational infrastructure in place to facilitate test and development from chip to data center. The right candidate brings deep design, commissioning, project management and operational experience from a mission-critical environment — data center, biotech/pharma, or high-tech fab/manufacturing — and is comfortable owning systems end-to-end.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct site assessments against internal standards and requirements for lab and rack test environments.
Develop internal schematic designs as well as review vendor infrastructure designs with risk analysis and performance characterization
Perform design and equipment submittal reviews for new builds and retrofit projects
Troubleshoot and Root Cause Analysis to determine system and equipment issues. Develop project designs and manage vendor through remediation
Support operational issues with training, ops and procedure reviews, and event support to resolution
Own the design and project implementation for new facilities and retrofit projects
Interface with internal and external stakeholders to ensure designs facilitate performance and availability for product development teams
Work on multiple project in multiple geographic regions
Conduct ongoing system performance reviews and trend analysis to identify risks before they become failures
Develop, maintain, and execute SOPs and MOPs for all critical systems
Supervise and coordinate third-party contractors performing servicing and preventive maintenance
Author and manage work orders as needed; maintain spare parts and consumables inventory
Support issue and risk remediation — both hands-on repair and scoped project coordination
You may be a good fit if you have (Must-have qualifications)
Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering
5+ years of industrial or commercial engineering experience in mission critical facilities
Experience researching new designs, technologies and construction methods
Demonstrated experience with the design, construction, operation or maintenance of mission critical facilities (data center or high tech lab preferred)
Knowledge of Local and Regional Building Codes
Strong candidates may also have experience with (Nice-to-have qualifications)
Professional Engineer License
Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering
Commissioning Certification (Cx or BCxP equivalent)
Project Management Certification (PMI)

How we’re different
Etched believes in the Bitter Lesson. We think most of the progress in the AI field has come from using more FLOPs to train and run models, and the best way to get more FLOPs is to build model-specific hardware. Larger and larger training runs encourage companies to consolidate around fewer model architectures, which creates a market for single-model ASICs.
We are a fully in-person team in San Jose and Taipei, and greatly value engineering skills. We do not have boundaries between engineering and research, and we expect all of our technical staff to contribute to both as needed.
