THE ROLE: RECEIVER/COOKIE SCALER (CHICAGO)

Receivers receive all deliveries that arrive to our commissary and keep our inventory organized. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills.

Cookie Scaler shaping, and weighing cookie dough while following Levain’s precise methods while ensuring all Department of Health and food safety standards are met.

What you’ll do:

  • Receive all deliveries that arrive to the bakery
  • Confirm that the delivery is accurate, resolving any discrepancies with management and vendors as needed
  • Sort delivery and put into appropriate storage, adhering to a “first-in-first-out” organizational convention
  • Understand and maintain safety standards
  • Adhere to health code standards
  • Work towards production goals, creating enough batches to support demand for all of our bakeries
  • Physical requirements:
    • Ability to lift and move 50 pounds regularly and for long periods of time
    • Ability to remain on feet for 8+ hours
    • Ability to bend over

What we’re looking for:

  • Strong organizational skills – You can keep our teams organized and do so with care, attention, and pride
  • A self-starter – you take initiative and are trusted to complete all your tasks under very little supervision, and offer to pitch in where you can
  • Adaptability and flexibility – you recognize that in the food industry, anything can and will happen, and you’re able to calmly troubleshoot, adjust, and lend a hand as needed
  • Collaborative spirit and commitment to Levain’s core values – you’re a team player and willing to lend a hand or elevate those around you. You add your own individuality to an already positive and uplifting work environment. A good sense of humor doesn’t hurt, either!
  • Prior bakery production experience a plus but not required; for the right people, we’re more than happy to teach.

Compensation:

  • $19.75/hour

Competitive triathletes and passionate bakers, Pam Weekes and Connie McDonald left their careers to open a small bread shop in New York City in 1995 — Levain Bakery.


One day, they baked a BIG chocolate chip walnut cookie as energy for triathlon training. At Levain, a batch of these 6-ounce cookies flew off the shelves, and an icon was born. The cozy shop on West 74th Street became a neighborhood favorite and a destination for epicurious visitors from around the world, hungry for “the cookie.”

From the start, Pam, Connie and team baked everything fresh on-site each day, donating the day’s leftovers to charity — and we still do, nearly 30 years later. Today, Levain has bakeries across the country (with more to come!), plus ecommerce gift boxes to treat cookie lovers in every state.
