For this new and exciting role, we are looking for a passionate, business-oriented, pragmatic, and proactive IP professional who has a demonstrated ability to independently manage a diverse and complex responsibilities workload, while maintaining priorities and proactively anticipating topics. As a team member of the On Legal team, you take ownership in a broad range of day-to-day topics in the area of patents and designs.

Your Team:

Working out of our brand-new office in Zurich, the On Legal Team supports all business units across the globe in their daily endeavors. Being part of the Legal Team at On means to be an entrepreneurial minded self-starter, who is not afraid of venturing into unknown territory and working autonomously and with a high degree of proactiveness. Our mission is to provide the global organization with business-oriented advice to help and enable On to grow internally and externally. You will be part of a team of lawyers, patent engineers, and paralegals and report directly to the Head of Intellectual Property.

Your Mission:

  • Expertise and Advice: Provide advice and counseling on patent related topics covering the entire product life cycle, from first idea to finished product. Identify and assess risks and opportunities relating to patents. Execute and oversee patent searches, screening, monitoring and reporting including risk assessments for our pipeline of innovative products.
  • Global Perspective: Manage global patent portfolio and monitor competitors, patent landscape, and trends.
  • Strategic Thinking: Provide strategic counsel to business stakeholders, including development and implementation of strategies around patent protection and enforcement activities.
  • Communication and Negotiation: Effectively communicate and present complex IP concepts to various stakeholders within the organization, and review IP related agreements.
  • Collaboration and Relationship Building: Collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout the organization, including Innovation/R&D, Design, and Product, and raise awareness through trainings.

Your Story:

  • A university degree in engineering or science with a focus on mechanics, chemistry, materials science, or related fields. Qualification as an European Patent Attorney is a plus but not a requirement.
  • 5+ years experience as a patent engineer or patent attorney in a cross-cultural, cross-functional global environment, ideally gained within law firms and/or companies in the sports or consumer goods industry.
  • Strong background in patents, including experience in providing support throughout the invention disclosure process, FTOs, clearance investigations, and analysis, patent drafting and managing filings, and all stages of the patent prosecution process including filings, annuities, office actions, and third party actions.
  • Strategic mindset and the ability to translate product strategies into comprehensive patent protection and enforcement strategies.
  • Excellent communication, project management, and negotiation skills to interact with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to address complex legal and business challenges.
  • Passion for identifying innovative solutions and not afraid of venturing into unknown territory.
  • Collaborative nature and the ability to build relationships with diverse teams and stakeholders.
