About the Team
OpenAI’s IT team powers the technology that enables our people to do their best work. We build and support systems that are reliable, secure, and easy to use—so that every employee, whether they’re working on cutting-edge AI research or scaling our operations globally, can move fast and collaborate effectively.
We support a variety of use cases across OpenAI, including corporate infrastructure, networking, AV systems, endpoint management, and IT support. The team takes pride in creating a thoughtful, high-quality user experience for every person at the company.
About the Role
We're looking for an Audiovisual (AV) Events Engineer to lead our global ITAV event support function. This person will drive how we support executive meetings, team events, company-wide all-hands, and high-profile productions across our offices. You’ll collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and external vendors to ensure events run smoothly and our technology just works.
This role is highly hands-on and requires technical depth across AV production tools, networking, and IT systems—alongside a service mindset and calm under pressure.
This is a full-time, onsite role based in our San Francisco office, five days a week.
In this role, you will:
Be the subject matter expert for our global ITAV event support program and event space technologies.
Own AV event planning end-to-end—from design and coordination through on-the-ground execution.
Operate, program, and configure event AV systems (e.g., Yamaha, Vizrt, Panasonic, Ross, Analogway, Reidel, Clearcom).
Serve in key AV roles during events (Technical Director, Video/Audio Engineer, Graphics, QA).
Support events ranging from executive offsites to all-hands meetings and multi-office productions.
Build and maintain scalable ITAV event processes in partnership with our workplace and events teams.
Troubleshoot AV issues, manage escalations, and proactively maintain reliability across environments.
Travel as needed to support AV setup and operations at other OpenAI locations.
Mentor junior teammates and document processes to scale knowledge across the team.
Provide feedback to AV Engineering to continuously improve our AV infrastructure.
You might thrive in this role if you have:
7+ years of experience supporting and running internal AV events in fast-paced tech environments.
Expertise with enterprise AV systems and production technology (e.g., QSC, Yamaha, Vizrt, Ross, Barco, Blackmagic).
Deep familiarity with AV-over-IP technologies like QSC Q-LAN, Dante, NDI, and Crestron NVX.
Hands-on experience with video conferencing tools (Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Webex) and how they integrate with enterprise AV setups.
The ability to calmly troubleshoot under pressure—before, during, and after events.
Experience managing AV requests and support through ticketing systems with SLA tracking.
A strong understanding of enterprise networking concepts as they relate to AV systems.
A high bar for quality, strong documentation habits, and a passion for creating a reliable, delightful AV experience.
