About the Team
OpenAI Finance is responsible for ensuring the organization is set up for success in pursuit of its mission to ensure that artificial general intelligence benefits all of humanity.
About the Role
We are seeking a Finance Shared Services Lead to design, build, and lead our global Finance Shared Services function across Procure-to-Pay (P2P), Order-to-Cash (O2C), Payroll, Record-to-Report (R2R), Compliance, and future scaled operational workflows.
This leader will be responsible for transforming how Finance operates by creating a centralized, tech-enabled, metrics-driven shared services model—leveraging our BPO partnership with Accenture, Oracle Fusion, automation, and AI/agent-powered workflows. This role is foundational to our 2025–2026 Finance transformation and is directly tied to OpenAI’s growth, global ambitions, and scalability.
You will build a high-performing shared services engine that delivers accuracy, timeliness, operational rigor, and exceptional service quality—while enabling our Controllership and Finance teams to focus on strategic work.
This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.
In this role, you will:
Build, lead, and stabilize OpenAI’s global Finance Shared Services function, spanning P2P, O2C, R2R, Payroll operations, and scaled transactional workflows.
Launch additional finance functions into the shared service model.
Stand up and manage a hybrid delivery model across internal teams, BPO teams, and automation solutions (bots, GPT agents, Oracle automations).
Own operational excellence, service delivery, SLAs, KPIs, and continuous improvement across all shared services processes.
Drive the transition from staff augmentation to a full BPO operational model with Accenture, ensuring quality, scale, and cost efficiency.
Own service-level governance, operational cadence, quarterly business reviews, and issue escalation between OpenAI and BPO teams.
Establish quality controls, risk mitigations, reconciliations, and compliance standards consistent with public-company expectations.
Develop and manage workforce planning, capacity models, and cost structures for shared services operations.
Partner with Controllership, Procurement, Strategic Finance, Treasury, Tax, and IT to deliver integrated financial operations with a GPO model.
Influence senior leaders and drive alignment on the shared services vision, service model, and operating framework.
You might thrive in this role if you have:
15+ years of experience in Finance Operations, Shared Services, BPO leadership, or Global Business Services (GBS) roles in high-growth or public-company environments.
Deep understanding of P2P, O2C, R2R, payroll operations, and compliance workflows.
Experience managing or transitioning to a BPO/outsourcing model at scale.
Strong operational rigor: SLAs, KPIs, service delivery frameworks, governance, and continuous improvement.
Proven ability to design scalable processes, systems, and teams in rapidly evolving environments.
Excellent leadership, communication, stakeholder management, and change management skills.
Ability to work cross-functionally and influence executives, including driving decisions without formal authority.
Comfort with ambiguity and fast-moving priorities; thrives in a high-growth, mission-driven environment.
