The Associate Chief Medical Information Officer (ACMIO) at Essentia Health is a physician or advanced practice provider leader who partners with clinical, operational, and technical teams to optimize the use of health information technology in support of high-quality, patient-centered care. The role emphasizes systems thinking, problem-solving, and the application of informatics to improve patient outcomes, patient experience, clinician efficiency, and care delivery that consistently meets patient’s needs.
The ACMIO position includes 0.5 FTE in informatics leadership and 0.5 FTE in clinical practice (1.0 FTE total), supporting a strong connection between informatics strategy and real-world clinical workflows.
The scope of oversight, focus areas, and accountability for this role are expected to evolve over time, reflecting Essentia Health’s strategic priorities, the needs and maturity of the clinical informatics team, and the ACMIO’s individual expertise and professional development goals.

Responsibilities
- Provide clinical informatics leadership to support safe, effective, and efficient care delivery
- Partner with clinical, operational, and IT leaders to align informatics initiatives with organizational goals
- Support optimization, adoption, and effective use of EHR and related digital tools across the enterprise
- Define, monitor, and evaluate key performance indicators related to clinical system use, clinician experience, and patient outcomes
- Serve as a clinical liaison between frontline clinicians and technical teams, ensuring clinical needs are well represented in system design and governance
- Contribute to strategic planning and prioritization of clinical informatics initiatives
- Stay informed of trends and best practices in clinical informatics and healthcare technology, applying relevant insights to organizational strategy
- Mentor and support members of the clinical informatics team, with responsibilities tailored to team needs and individual strengths
- Assume additional leadership responsibilities or areas of focus over time as organizational priorities and professional interests evolve
Qualifications
- Medical degree or advanced practice provider degree required
- Demonstrated experience in clinical informatics, with examples of improving clinical workflows, system usability, or care outcomes
- Clinical Informatics fellowship training or board certification preferred
- Experience working with EHR systems, particularly Epic
- Proven leadership experience in a healthcare environment
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and change management skills
- Collaborative work style with the ability to engage diverse clinical and operational stakeholders
Compensation
$53 - $160 an hour – will vary based on medical specialty. Hired candidates may be eligible to receive additional compensation in the form of bonuses, quality incentives or production-based compensation.
