2992030 PATHOLOGY - ILJob Description:
Process and prepare pathology and cytology specimens, as defined by CLIA, for pathologist and cytotechnologist interpretation. Performs maintenance of instrumentation and maintains histology and cytology files of specimens, blocks, slides, and data.Education Qualifications:
- Graduate of an associate degree in Histotechnician
OR
Successful completion of 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) or an associate degree, with a combination of 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both)
Preferred Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in biologic science related field from an accredited college/university
- Prior laboratory experience
Key Responsibilities:
- Routine and special staining procedures
- Correctly identifies, accessions, labels, prepares, and processes all pathology specimens in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures
- Stores specimens, slides, and blocks in an organized manner
- Learns IHC ( Immunohistochemistry which looks at spatial localization of proteins in tissue) and ISH ( In situ hybridization which allows for localization of different types of RNA)
- Participation in Quality Assurance, Quality Control, instrument maintenance and communication of issues to senior staff. Learns problem solving when managing instrument downtime
