Messy spend management is tricky business. And tedious processes are a lose-lose situation for all involved, not just finance. At Pleo, we're changing that. We build spend solutions that make managing money seamless, empowering, and surprisingly effective for finance teams and employees alike—with a vision to help all businesses ‘go beyond’.

The word ‘Pleo’ actually means ‘more than you’d expect’, and living by that mantra has been the secret to our success over the last 10 years.

Now, we’re at a pivotal moment in our journey; every move we make has a direct impact on our 40,000+ customers, our business, and our collective success. We need people who take pride in uncovering customer needs, who turn complex problems into simple solutions, challenge the way things are done (respectfully), and always aim high. With great ambitions driving us forward, we can’t say we’ve got this whole thing figured out. And frankly, that’s half the fun! What we can say is that we’re a driven, progressive, and, importantly, a kind bunch of 850+ people from over 100 nationalities, all committed to delivering the future of business spending, together.

We're looking for a Deputy Money Laundering Reporting Officer (“DMLRO”) to join our Risk and Compliance Function at Pleo.

In this role, you will support the Pleo Financial Services UK Ltd MLRO in overseeing the firm’s Anti-Money Laundering and counter-terrorist financing controls across its e-money and payment services activities and work closely with the Pleo Group’s Financial Crime Function.

The role includes reviewing suspicious activity, supporting the submission of SARs, and ensuring effective transaction monitoring, customer due diligence, and regulatory reporting. The DMLRO acts as a key escalation point for financial crime issues and deputises for the MLRO when required, liaising with regulators and law enforcement as necessary.

What you’ll be doing

As a DMLRO, you will:

  • Work closely with the Pleo Group’s Financial Crime Function and senior managers to identify, assess and mitigate financial crime risks.
  • Work closely with the Pleo Group Financial Crime Function to define, develop, manage and document the financial crime and AML programme.
  • Manage the suspicious activity reporting process for Pleo Financial Services UK Ltd, internally and externally.
  • Support the business where necessary with the launch of new products and features to ensure regulatory requirements are met.
  • Act as deputy to the MLRO, providing guidance to staff, escalating significant risks to senior management, and representing the firm in dealings with regulators or law enforcement when required.

What you bring

You’ll thrive in this role if you have:

  • Strong AML and regulatory knowledge - A solid understanding of money laundering, terrorist financing, and financial crime regulations relevant to e-money and payment services, including customer due diligence, transaction monitoring, and SAR obligations.
  • Sound judgement and decision-making - Confidence in making risk-based decisions on escalations, SAR filings, customer risk ratings, and account restrictions in a fast-moving payments environment.
  • Clear communication and reporting skills - The ability to write concise SARs, prepare regulatory communications, and explain financial crime risks clearly to senior management and frontline teams.
  • Attention to detail with strong organisational skills - Ensuring alerts, investigations, regulatory deadlines, and records are handled accurately, consistently, and in line with audit and regulatory expectations.

Who you’ll be working with and reporting to

You will report to the Pleo Financial Services UK Ltd MLRO and work closely with the Financial Crime Compliance team. Our team of 4 is highly collaborative and dedicated. You’ll also have the chance to partner with teams across Risk and Compliance to ensure success.

How you’ll develop in this role
In your first 6 months at Pleo, you’ll:

  • Lead the Financial Crime Enterprise Wide Risk Assessment.
  • Collaborate with the First Line of Defence to improve due diligence processes and transactions surveillance
  • Grow your skills in assessing and managing complex, higher-risk customer profiles, including those operating in military and dual-use goods sectors, as the company continues to scale.

We’re committed to helping you develop your career, whether that means taking on bigger projects or stepping into leadership
