We believe that innovation is powered by continuous learning because our customers and their needs are always changing. We're looking for a design director to lead the vision, evolution, and expansion of our design platform teams and content design practice, reporting to the VP of design. You take a content-first approach and know how words, images, and UI elements work together in a story arc that meets our customer where they are and progresses them from need to resolution. Your job is to develop the teams, tooling, and processes that enable Remitly to build cohesive, customer-centric products at scale.

You will:

  • Develop a team of content and platform designers with a thriving culture, where designers grow in their careers and feel a strong sense of inclusion and belonging.
  • Grow future design leaders within the organization, coaching them on prioritization, managing dependencies, and defining requirements.
  • Amplify design operations so the customer experience matches the brilliance of our design and product teams.
  • Drive collection and synthesis of customer data to inform decisions.
  • Own content-first UX best practices and process for the Remitly design team.
  • Lead end-to-end customer experience for content — from upper funnel to service.
  • Oversee the design system and its adoption to ensure quality across the user experience.
  • Advance data-driven design practices to define and measure success of design system initiatives.
  • Educate stakeholders and evangelize the value of adopting our design system and content design best practices across the company.
  • Build templates, guides, and systems to ensure quality across the user experience.
  • Ensure deadlines are met, your org is effective, and team members are set up for success and have clear and measurable goals.

You have:

  • At least 10 years experience leading content design, customer experience, or product design
  • At least 7 years of experience managing a diverse, cross-functional team of design strategists, content strategists, researchers, and UX & UI designers
  • At least 7 years of experience specifically developing design systems, including guidelines for design foundations, style, and voice
  • Experience in accessibility design and implementing accessibility requirements
  • Proven ability with both oversight and creation of user experience design deliverables—including content narratives, wireframes, customer journeys, concepts, and information design
  • Extensive experience in interface design, research, and new product development using Lean UX methods
  • Proven success designing world-class mobile experiences (both native apps and responsive in-browser designs)
  • Demonstrated strength with building relationships and communicating effectively both internally and externally
  • An outstanding portfolio that demonstrates expertise and leadership in customer-focused product and content design solutions
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills

The starting base salary range for this position is typically $152,000-$181,940. In the U.S., Remitly employees are shareholders in our Company and equity is part of our total compensation plan.
