About this role:

Udemy is looking for a Software Engineer II to join the Account Trust team in Dublin, Ireland.  We are part of the Platform Engineering organization that treats security and compliance as an integral part of product development.

\n

You will safeguard our customers against security risks and abuse, modernize our login and signup experience with the latest in authentication standards, and ship code based on platform using micro-frontends and microservices. You’ll grow by understanding how bad actors could abuse our platform, implementing protections for our instructors and learners, and being responsible for the uptime of our production systems. 

\n

What you'll be doing: 

\n
    \n
  • Implement new services that focus on improving user experience and enhancing security on the Udemy platform.  Contribute to the design process and participate in code reviews for both front-end and back-end code. 
  • \n
  • Maintain existing systems. Provide code reviews and bug fixes as required to support work across the company. 
  • \n
  • Integrate with third-party products and APIs that support combating abuse and improving security. 
  • \n
  • Provide platform support for other development teams within Udemy that rely on the code and the services that you deliver. 
  • \n
  • Work with our customer facing Trust and Safety team to better understand patterns of abuse and security risks on our platform.
  • \n
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and be operationally responsible for the services that you ship along with your teammates.
  • \n
\n

What you’ll have:

    \n
  • Minimum 2 – 3 years of professional experience working on a team in full stack software development with backend and frontend deliverables. A strength in either backend or front-end is expected. Mastery of both is not.  
  • \n
  • Experience in languages such as Python, Kotlin, Java, JavaScript, or Typescript.
  • \n
  • Experience styling paging using CSS, SASS, or Less.
  • \n
  • Experience with one or more application frameworks similar to SpringBoot or NextJS and React. 
  • \n
  • A track record of continuous learning and problem solving.
  • \n
  • Experience building front-end or backend services on a cloud platform (GPC, AWS, Azure, etc)
  • \n
\n

Nice to have:

  • Experience with gRPC and GraphQL. 
  • \n
  • Experience in distributed systems, K8s, or AWS architectural concepts. 
  • \n
  • Knowledge of cryptography, network security, or authentication/authorization standards.

  • Knowledge of Web Application Security, such as cookies, CORS, XSS, and CSP.
