Job Description
As a Designer on the Men’s Outerwear Team, you will play a critical role in one of the most technically demanding and creatively rewarding categories within Vuori’s assortment. Outerwear at Vuori blends performance innovation with refined, everyday wearability—and your role is to help push that evolution forward. You’ll be responsible for driving seasonal design execution across a wide range of outerwear silhouettes, from lightweight transitional layers to fully weatherproof systems. You will concept, prototype, and deliver garments that seamlessly integrate function, movement, and Vuori’s distinctive design ethos.
This role requires a unique blend of technical expertise and creative intuition—balancing the discipline of garment engineering with bold, directional design thinking. You’ll collaborate closely with cross-functional partners in Merchandising, Product Development, Materials, Technical Design, and Sourcing, while contributing to seasonal storytelling, line strategy, and product innovation.
Vuori is seeking a designer who is hands-on, self-directed, deeply passionate about performance apparel, and excited to contribute to the future of outerwear design at a brand on the rise.
What you'll get to do:
- Own the end-to-end design execution for Vuori’s Men’s Outerwear category—including performance and lifestyle second layers such as jackets, overshirts, insulated layering pieces (light and heavy), snow jackets, and bottoms—delivering innovative, technically driven product that reflects Vuori’s elevated, coastal-inspired aesthetic.
- Concept and create compelling seasonal product stories in partnership with the Senior Designer and the broader men’s design team, grounded in trend research, commercial insights, and Vuori’s brand strategy.
- Conduct and synthesize global trends, color, and cultural research with a focus on outerwear innovation across outdoor, sport, streetwear, and luxury segments; distill insights into actionable design direction.
- Create black-and-white technical sketches and detailed 2D linework in Adobe Illustrator; support designs with in-house prototypes or 3D mockups as needed.
- Select fabrics and trims from the raw materials library—or in collaboration with Materials—ensuring each choice enhances functionality, feel, and brand alignment.
- Apply seasonal color and graphics to the full assortment—including new, core, and carryover styles—with consideration for feasibility, merchandising strategy, and commercial impact.
- Present colored-up sketches to cross-functional partners for feedback and sign-off, clearly communicating inspiration, construction rationale, and alignment to the design brief.
- Develop complete tech packs with accurate construction callouts, fit intent, materials, and trims; hand over to Product Development and Technical Design for sampling and iteration.
- Partner closely with Product Development, Technical Design, and factories throughout the proto process—commenting on samples, solving construction challenges, and ensuring the final garment delivers on both design intent and IMU targets.
- Participate in fittings with a strong understanding of outerwear-specific patterning, layering systems, mobility, and performance criteria.
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge of outerwear construction techniques, including:
- Seam-sealed and bonded construction
- Shell and insulation layering
- Functional elements like hoods, vents, storm flaps, and gussets
- Ergonomic shaping and engineered movement zones
- Prepare and present physical prototypes at proto review and seasonal milestone meetings (Concept, Design Review, Line Finalization, etc.), articulating both design intent and commercial strategy.
- Maintain and update the seasonal assortment in response to feedback from design leadership and cross-functional teams.
- Collaborate with Merchandising to align on pricing strategy, forecasting, and line architecture to ensure both elevated brand energy and commercial success.
- Uphold Vuori’s design language and aesthetic across all touchpoints, ensuring consistency, clarity, and premium execution.
- Mentor and support junior team members; contribute to a collaborative, high-performance design culture built on curiosity, trust, and shared excellence
