Job Description
We are looking for a Lead Operational Engineer, Retail, to drive the reliability, performance, and innovation of our in-store and back-end retail systems. In this role, you will lead technical operations across our retail environments, ensuring that systems such as POS, store networks, and digital retail tools function seamlessly to support both store teams and customers. This is a hybrid role blending hands-on engineering, systems architecture, and operational leadership with cross-functional collaboration to support a fast-paced, customer-focused retail business. Adopting and testing emerging technologies to stay up to date on latest industry trends.
What you’ll get to do:
- Own the deployment, education, and ongoing support of core retail technologies including POS systems, store devices, peripherals, and emerging technologies.
- Ensure uptime, stability, and performance of retail systems across all store locations globally.
- Utilize robust monitoring, alerting, and diagnostic tools for proactive system health checks.
- Meet SLAs and KPIs for system performance and issue response.
- Evaluate and pilot new technologies to improve store operations and customer experience.
- Automate routine tasks, deployments, and configurations to increase efficiency and reduce human error.
- Upgrade scalable solutions to support store expansion and evolving technology needs.
- Own technology rollouts, migrations, and upgrades in partnership with Retail Operations Leadership.
- Ensure smooth integration of new systems into store environments with minimal disruption.
- Maintain detailed documentation of technical standards, deployment guides, and troubleshooting procedures including Vuori’s intranet site for retail stores.
- Serve as a senior technical escalation point for complex store issues and outages.
- Collaborate with IT, Infrastructure, Security, and Retail Operations teams to align technical solutions with business goals.
- Train and mentor junior engineers and support personnel.
- This role will be responsible for establishing and managing strategic relationships with global third-party vendors, while overseeing their performance against defined KPIs.
Qualifications
Who you are:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field and/or equivalent experience preferred.
- 5+ years in a technical engineering role supporting distributed or retail environments.
- Expertise in POS systems (Shopify PLUS), store device management (Intune), and in-store networking.
- Experience with Project Management & ITSM Tools (Jira).
- Strong communication skills and ability to communicate with large audiences.
- Experience retail store peripheral hardware (tablets, printers, scanners).
- Familiarity with ITIL practices and incident/change management frameworks.
- Experience in environments with high-volume transactions and strict uptime requirements.

The salary range for this role is $109,000 per year - $125,000 per year.
